Our Bend + Mend Patient of the Month for May is Russell Gripper! Check out Russell on the Trapeze table doing one of our more advanced Pilates exercises. He has great technique!
From Russell: “I first started with Bend + Mend in April 2011 on the recommendation of a sports doctor who diagnosed a degenerative L5/S1 disc which had caused three chronic bouts of back pain over the previous twelve months. I have been doing a weekly Pilates class since then and have been back injury free. Pilates allows me to continue doing physical activities such as running and cycling and also keeping up with my three young girls. Kirsty’s class (Thurs 7:30am) always keeps me on my toes as she generally includes something new each week and she has a very wide variety of exercises. While this class means an early start, I always leave it feeling good and ready to start my working day. I always dread lunges on the trapeze and glutes on the reformer. Why don’t they ever get easier??? While most people think Pilates is about your “core”, it’s definitely more than that. How many times in a class does Kirsty look at me and say “shoulders down, back and relaxed” or “Glutes on?” It’s always a challenge for me to keep my best form during an exercise set but when I think about it, I can see I have made a lot of improvement over the past 5 years.
Thank you Kirsty and the Bend + Mend team for keeping me upright and keeping me going.”
And from Kirsty: “Russell brings a friendly enthused attitude to his early morning Pilates sessions! He is consistently motivated, working on his technique and pushing himself to be better and try more challenging exercises. This has all paid off with more mobility and no pain. He is a pleasure to have in the classes, he keeps a smile on his face, even when he is doing the hardest of exercises!”
