Getting Back Into Dance…

Ever felt like you might want to get back into those dance classes but don’t know where to start? Chances are, if you danced when you were younger, you still really miss it but might not have the confidence to start again!  Apart from the confidence factor, you might be worried that you have lost some fitness and flexibility since you last danced.  Dancing can be a great form of exercise and is something you can continue to do at any age.

If you have a pre-existing injury, then it’s best to consult your Physiotherapist about it.  They will be able to advise you on exercises that can help you to manage your injury, as well as advise you on the best type of dance for you.  If you don’t have any pre-existing injuries but are concerned that you have lost some flexibility or strength, a Dance Assessment may be suitable for you.

Many dance schools offer adult beginner classes in all styles, such as ballet, hip hop, tap and jazz. The classes are usually made up of a stretching component as well as some technique and some work on a routine.  If the thought of re-entering a dance school is too daunting, or you are trying dance for the first time, you may feel more comfortable attending a dance-based aerobic class.  Many gyms offer these classes and they can be a fun way of improving your fitness and easing back into dance.

So what are you waiting for?  Get online and find out where your nearest dance school is that offers adult classes.  As with any form of exercise, it’s best to ease back into things, so don’t go crazy and book yourself into 5 classes a week!

As always if you have any queries questions or doubts, don’t hesitate to consult your Bend + Mend Physiotherapist here in Sydney’s CBD.
